This is my favorite line from the play The Taming of the Shrew because it shows the true depth of Petruchio's character. Otherwise I feel that Petruchio is a shallow pig who brainwashes Kate into becoming an obedient housewife :)

wow, ive got to say this picture really is beautiful!! the feels im getting from this :iconcryforeverplz: have you seen the 1976 version? Its all very stage based but then the acting and lines are all amazing. This line of petruchios within the 1976 version is so well said, you really do get a sense and depth of his character, i recommend you have a watch its all on youtube. Thanks for sharing this .... its amazing !

Beautiful! I hadn't thought about that quote in that light before. And I love how you've drawn them both...especially Petruchio. :)

You know I never even considered this line being delivered tenderly but your sketch just threw a whole new light on it. Wonderful job.

from my first reading of taming of the shrew, i definitely believed there was no love between Petruchio and Kate. my English class watched a fantastic version of the play online (can't remember where or who), and i thought differently!

i suppose it's up to the readers to decipher for themselves.

well i read it first and then watched the old movie with elizabeth taylor and richard burton. they definitely vamped up the romance in the movie and made you feel sympathetic to petruchio. but while reading the play i really didn't like him.....but that's just my opinion. maybe there's another way to interpret the play that makes him likeable.
